modern day plagues (1600- present day)
1. Great Plague of London- Effected the people in England. It occurred in years 1665-1666 A.D. It was the Plague. It killed most of the people in the poorer parts of the town because of the poor hygiene but managed to make its way to the richer parts of London.
2. Third cholera pandemic- Occurred in Russia. It was the Cholera which is a bacterial disease caused by drinking contaminated water and foods. It spread through the poorer people of Russia because of the bad water they were drinking. This pandemic lasted from 1852-1860 throughout some parts of Europe and lot of Asia like Russia.
3. 1918 Flu Pandemic- This occurred all around the world. 75,000,000 people died in this pandemic. The flu is what disease that did it all. This occurred towards the end of WWI and Americans were joining the fight to help bring down the Germans. They lived in the trenches which were unhealthy. Half of the Americans that died in WWI died from influenza. Then they brought it back to the U.S which killed lots of people because they didn't have immunity. This influenza was different because people 20-40 years of age contracted it which is unusual because it usual contracts toddlers and older people.
How did the plague impact the workforce?- It destroyed it. Farms were abandoned and buildings left crumbling. The price for labor skyrocketed.
Catholic Church- At a time of no hope people turned to the church for help. One of their main things they did to try and heal themselves is pray and go to church. After all this praying all it did was get worst but they still loved god.
Cities- Cities were devastated. Some cities were completely wiped out because of the plague. Most cities suffered from 30%-70% dead which was complety devastating.
Population- 30%-60% of Europe was wiped out. This reduced the worlds population by a whopping 100,000,000 people. The population was drastically affected.
